Set of Four Sterling Silver English Candlesticks
About the Item
Being offered is a set of four sterling silver candlesticks made in Sheffield, England by Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall of Martin, Hall & Company - Broad Street Park Sheffield and hallmarked 1866. (All information is based on the hallmarks along the bottom of the candlesticks). They are tall, ornate and regal as one would expect from the Victorian era. Starting at the bottom one finds raised urns and leaves on each side of the square shaped base. On the body there are ribbons, wreaths and towards the top a rams head (on each of the four sides) appears to be holding up the upper part of the candlestick. More wreaths, ribbons and leaves are found around the cup. The bobeche is beaded — exactly like the beaded pattern around the base and is removable. To find a pair is impressive but to find a set of four candlesticks in this condition is impossible— or so we thought!! Imagine these gracing your dining room table — simply breathtaking!!
