Six Carved Rock Crystal & Sterling Swan Motif Salts/ Condiments with Spoons
About the Item
Six Austrian Carved Rock Crystal & .800 Silver Swan Salt Cellars with Spoons, Circa 1900
Dimensions: Each swan measures approximately 3" W x 1.25" D x 2.75" H; the six accompanying spoons are each 2.5" long.
Materials: Carved rock crystal, silver (.800)
A rare and elegant matched set of six Austrian figural salts or condiment vessels in the form of swans, dating to the turn of the 20th century. Each piece features a delicately carved rock crystal body—expertly rendered with fine feathered detail and organic curvature—paired with a stylized .800 silver swan-form neck and head. The elongated necks curve naturally over the vessels, creating a graceful and lifelike silhouette.
Each salt includes its original silver spoon, stamped .800 to denote Continental silver purity. While the silver swan necks are unmarked, their craftsmanship and patina are consistent with Austrian or South German work from the Belle Époque period (circa 1900).
Carved rock crystal objects of this type were time-consuming to fabricate and typically produced in small quantities for elite households or as special table gifts. Their luminous quality and intricate carving evoke the standards of imperial or courtly tableware, reflecting the refined taste and decorative opulence of the late Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Swan forms were symbolic of grace, fidelity, and beauty, and such vessels were often used for serving caviar, salts, or condiments during formal service.
Highly collectible, especially as a complete six-piece set, this group is not only ready for use but also ideal for display in a cabinet of curiosities or alongside fine silver and hardstone objets d'art.

Emilia Castillo Sterling Silver & Volcanic Stone Molcajete with Spoon

Emilia Castillo Sterling Silver & Volcanic Stone Molcajete with Spoon, Mexico, Later 20th Century
A sterling silver and volcanic stone molcajete (mortar) set is a functional sculptural object that bridges traditional craftsmanship and modern luxury. The handmade serving piece is modeled after the ancient Mesoamerican molcajete, traditionally used for grinding spices and preparing salsa or guacamole. Castillo’s refined interpretation elevates the form with a hammered sterling silver bowl adorned with bold silver orbs encircling the rim, paired with a substantial curved-handled sterling silver spoon. The inner bowl rests within a hand-carved, tripod-footed volcanic stone base, offering both contrast and stability.
This sculptural piece draws inspiration from the traditional Mexican molcajete...
