About the Item

Sterling silver generous sized octagonal baluster shaped. Sugar caster Made in Birmingham in 1903, by Stokes & Ireland Ltd., Great Hampton Street, Birmingham. An excellent set of identifying hallmarks on the side of the top - picture No.3. The set on the caster are rather flat due to excessive polishing - picture 10. The hallmarks applied by the London Assay Office, explained:- Lion - Sterling silver guarantee mark. Lower case h - date letter for London 1903 Leopard`s head - London Assay Office mark. S.I.Ld - Maker`s mark for Stokes & Ireland Ltd. A delightful, generous sized caster of baluster shape, and constructed with eight panel sides. The top is pierced with geometric shapes, and has an urn shaped finial. Mounted on a stepped, trumpet shaped base. In very clean, polished condition. Ready for immediate presentation and use. No Dents - No Scratches - No Scuffs - NO FAULTS. Height:- 163 millimetres / 6.42 inches. Diameter:- 56 mms. / 2.20 ins. Weight:- 94.7 grams / 3.05 troy ounces. .

    A fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver sugar caster, an addition to our silver teaware collection. This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver sugar caster has a baluster form onto a circular domed spreading foot. The upper and lower portions of this piece are embellished with embossed and chased bead and scroll decoration accenting concave bordered, fluted decoration all in a spiral design. The sugar caster retains the original hallmarked screw fit cover, embellished with pierced decoration incorporating chased and embossed bead and scroll decoration, the screw fit attachment indicates the fine quality of this piece.
