Victorian English Sterling Silver Cream Sugar Presentation Set

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver cream jug and sugar presentation set - boxed; an addition to our antique teaware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver afternoon teaware set consists of a cream jug, a sugar bowl, six teaspoons and pair of sugar tongs. The cream jug and sugar bowl have an oval rounded form onto a circular spreading stepped bead decorated base. The bodies of the sugar bowl and creamer are embellished with panels of fine chased and embossed floral and foliate decoration on a matte background incorporating a shaped vacant cartouche to one side. The cream jug is fitted with an impressive chased floral and scroll decorated S scroll handle, with a looped upper terminal. The fine set of spoons has been crafted in the Onslow style augmented with chased floral and foliate decoration to the shaped terminals. The bowls of the spoons are ornamented with fine chased exotic masks on a radiating sunburst design. The handles of the tong are embellished with further floral, foliate and scroll decoration. This Victorian silver cream and sugar set retains the original hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior and a push fit catch. The interior of the box bears the retailer’s mark ‘The Association of Diamond Merchants Jewellers & Silversmiths, 6 Grand Hotel Buildings Trafalgar Square London’. Condition The components of this antique set are a very good gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The box is in excellent condition in keeping with age. The embossed and chased decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the cream jug and sugar bowl, to the reverse of each spoon and interior of the tongs are all very clear. A fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver cream and sugar presentation set made by Charles Stuart Harris - boxed; part of our silver teaware collection. This fine antique Victorian sterling silver afternoon teaware set consists of a sugar bowl, a cream jug, six teaspoons and a pair of sugar tongs. The cream jug and sugar bowl have a circular rounded form and ornamented with embossed and chased segmented floral and leaf motifs. The cream jug is fitted with a C scroll handle accented with a figurehead ornamentation. Both the cream jug and sugar bowl retains the original gilt interior. Each teaspoon has been crafted in the Old English pattern. The anterior surfaces of the teaspoon handles and the bridge of the sugar tongs are embellished with panels of bright cut engraved scrolling leaf decoration, accented with star motifs and incorporating a bead bordered vacant oval cartouche. This impressive cream and sugar set is fitted to the original fine and impressive hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior, which secures with a push fit catch. The interior of the box bears the mark ‘By Appointment, Elkington & Co, Manchester’ beneath a Royal coronet amidst the initials VR.
