Victorian Sterling Flatware set for Twelve by George Adams c1869 London
About the Item
Circa 1869, Sterling, by George Adams, London, England. This fabulous complete set for twelve by George Adams, renowned London Silversmith, is in the classic fiddle and thread pattern. Heavy and well-made, they bear a wonderful cow over crown armorial, probably denoting a set from a royal’s county home. Very good condition.
Noted: The matching sterling-handled knives are later, as sets of this period rarely had matching knives or they rarely survived. Also, one of the small forks has a slightly different armorial …the cow has wings.
The set is comprised of 12 six piece place settings = 72 pieces plus 1 ladle for 73 pieces total.

HALLMARKS: Head of Victoria, O date mark for 1869, Leopard Head for London, Lion rampant for sterling, and GA hallmark for George Adams
The Knives are a different maker and are marked as follows: GH for George Hindmarsh, Crown for Sheffield, Lion Rampant for Sterling, and I date mark for 1926
