About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Queen Anne Britannia standard silver dog nose pattern spoon; an addition to our silver cutlery collection. This exceptional antique Queen Anne Britannia standard silver spoon has been crafted in the dog nose rat tail pattern. The reverse surface of the dog nose pattern spoon handle terminal is embellished with the contemporary engraved initials 'RH'; the anterior surface is plain and unembellished. The reverse of this impressive example of antique silverware features a rat tail with bead ornamentation to the rounded bowl. Britannia silver, The Britannia silver standard of 958 (95.84% of fine silver), denoted by the icon of the seated Britannia holding an oval shield, was introduced by Queen Anne in 1697. This was to indicate the slightly higher standard of silver from sterling silver standard of 925 (92.5% of fine silver). Condition: This antique silver dog nose pattern spoon is an exceptional gauge of silver for its type, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The rat tail decoration is very sharp. The Britannia standard hallmarks struck to the reverse of the handle are very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver which is often not the case due to the nature of their location.
