About the Item
An exceptional, fine and impressive, large antique Georgian Britannia standard silver pepper Shaker; an addition to our silver cruets/condiments collection.
This exceptional antique Georgian Britannia standard* silver pepper Shaker has a plain baluster form onto a circular spreading foot.
The body of this exceptional silver pepper is encircled with an applied girdle.
The upper portion of the body is embellished with the engraved initials 'WAC'.
The impressive Britannia silver pepper is fitted with the original push fit cover with pierced scrolling leaf 'pepper' holes to the domed portion.
Such large examples are unusual for this type of antique Georgian pepper.
Britannia Silver - The Britannia silver standard of 958 (95.84% of fine silver), denoted by the icon of the seated Britannia holding an oval shield, was introduced by William III in 1697. This was to indicate the slightly higher standard of silver from sterling silver standard of 925 (92.5% of fine silver).
Condition
This antique pepper is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the base are very clear. The hallmark to the cover has not been struck precisely and is illegible, as often the case with pierced examples.
