An exceptional, fine and impressive set of four antique George V English sterling silver and enamel four-leaf clover menu / card holders; an addition to our diverse dining silverware collection. These exceptional antique menu holders, in sterling silver, have circular bases. The hallmarked anterior surface of each George V menu holder has been modelled in the form of a four-leaf clover design and embellished with fine green guilloche enamel panels. Each piece is surmounted with a plain circular design to the posterior. The bases of these impressive enamel and silver menu card holders are plain and unembellished, apart from the feature hallmarks. Condition These impressive antique menu holders are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The enamel decoration is in perfect condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each base and the lion passant to each clover design stalk are very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. A fine and impressive set of six antique George V English sterling silver menu / card holders - boxed; an addition to our diverse dining silverware collection. These fine antique George V sterling silver menu card holders have circular shaped bases. Each piece is surmounted with an impressive wishbone* shaped design with a paralleling shaped support. The subtly convex bases are encircled with an elevated scalloped border. The weighted bases of these impressive menu holders are fitted with green baize to the underside. This impressive set of antique silver menu card holders is fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior, secured with two hinged catches. The interior of the box bears the retailer's mark 'Robert Stewart (Jewellers) Ltd, 75 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow'. A wishbone, otherwise known as the furcular, is a forked bone found in birds and some dinosaurs. The main function of the bone is to provide strength between the neck and breast, to protect the creature during battle. The Ancient Romans perceived this bone as a symbol of luck which allowed the progression of breaking a dried chicken wishbone apart whilst making a wish; this procedure determined the person with the bigger half would receive their wish or have good fortune.
