Antique Victorian 1899 English Sterling Silver Novelty Pepper Pot

About the Item

A fine antique Victorian English sterling silver novelty pepper Shaker in the form of a George I style chocolate pot; an addition to our silver cruet and condiments collection. This fine antique Victorian silver pepper pot has been realistically modelled in the form of a George I style chocolate pot and has a plain tapering cylindrical design. The surface of this silver pepper pot is plain and unembellished. The pepper pot retains the original domed push fit hallmarked cover surmounted with a ball style finial and ornamented with pierced 'pepper' holes. This impressive Victorian silver pepper is fitted with the original plain rounded painted wood handle. Condition This antique pepper pot is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the base and part hallmarks to the sleeve of the cover are all very clear; the maker's mark to the underside shows signs of wear due to location and in keeping with age.     A fine and impressive, unusual antique Victorian English sterling silver novelty pepper shaker; an addition to our diverse silverware collection. This fine antique Victorian sterling silver novelty pepper has a plain ovoid shaped form. The body of the pepper is embellished with impressive chased decoration depicting a cracked egg shell with a boy’s face and hands to the anterior surface and his feet and buttocks to the reverse. The body has pierced 'pepper' holes in a hexagram formation to the upper portion. This pepper retains the original fully hallmarked screw fit weighted base; which when unscrewed provides access to permit the pot to be filled. This novelty pepper is a fine example of its type.
