A fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver composite Fiddle pattern flatware service for twelve persons; an addition to our silver cutlery collection. The pieces of this exceptional, antique Victorian composite sterling silver canteen service for twelve persons have been crafted in the Fiddle pattern. The surface of each handle is plain and unembellished. The posterior surface of each silver spoon has a rounded heel to the bowl. This Victorian sterling silver flatware set consists of eighty-nine pieces: Basic Service: 12 Table knives 12 Table forks 12 Table spoons 12 Dessert knives 12 Dessert forks 12 Dessert spoons 12 Teaspoons Additional Service: Soup ladle Pair of sauce ladles Pair of gravy spoons This exceptional and composite Fiddle pattern silver cutlery set has been crafted in an evenly match size by various silversmiths* between 1819-1874. The service is supplied with replacement table and dessert knives**. This antique flatware service is supplied in felt cutlery rolls; which not only protect the items in storage but significantly reduces tarnishing. * The basic service was comprised by silversmiths including: Chawner & Co (George William Adams), John Harris IV, H J Lias & Son (Henry John Lias & Henry John Lias), Henry Holland (of Holland, Aldwinckle & Slater), William Eaton and Joseph & Albert Savory. The additional service was crafted by: Reid & Sons (Christian Ker Reid, David Reid & Christian Bruce Reid), Thomas Wilkes Barker and Samuel Whitford. ** Predominately all antique silver canteens have replacement knives as the originals have not stood the test of time. Condition This Victorian sterling silver flatware service for twelve persons is a superior gauge of silver as to be expected of period silverware. The service is an exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each piece are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the superior gauge of silver.
