An exceptional, fine and impressive, comprehensive George V English sterling silver flatware service for twelve persons - boxed; an addition to our flatware collection The pieces of this exceptional and comprehensive George V English sterling silver canteen of cutlery service for twelve persons are crafted in a tapering form. The surface of each tapering handle is embellished with a swept terminal accented with an oval floral rosette design. The blade of each fish and hors d'oeuvre knife and fork, in addition to each salad fork are embellished with paralleling engraved borders. This table canteen of silver cutlery for 12 persons contains 155 pieces: Basic Service: 12 Table knives 12 Table forks 12 Soup spoons 12 Dessert knives 12 Dessert forks 12 Dessert spoons 12 Fish knives 12 Fish forks 12 Hors d'oeuvre knives 12 Hors d'oeuvre forks 12 Salad forks 12 Teaspoons Additional Pieces: Sauce ladle Soup ladle Pair of fruit serving spoons Pair of salad servers Fish serving knife Fish serving fork Carving fork Carving knife Sugar tongs This impressive service benefits from an extensive range of serving pieces, in addition to an exceptional matching solid silver fish set and hors d'oeuvre service. The pieces of this comprehensive service were crafted by the Sheffield silversmith V B Vickers & Co in 1930. The original knives were crafted by the handle specialists Yates Brothers in 1930 and the stainless steel blades of the original table and dessert knives bear the mark 'Universe Cutlery, Sheffield Made' incorporated into a garter, in addition to the mark 'Firth, Brearley, Stainless De luxe'. This impressive canteen of cutlery is fitted to the original, fine and impressive oak wood lift up lid and three draw canteen table; this is an impressive piece of furniture in its own right. Each draw is fitted with two brass handles and an escutcheon to the anterior surface. The interior of each drawer and the lift up lid retain the original green velvet interior. This exceptional example of furniture retains the original fitted fully working locking mechanism and key. Such compact canteen tables are desirable and becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition This silver cutlery service is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The service has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The engraved decoration is all very crisp. The oak canteen table has been professionally polished by a cabinet maker. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse surface of each piece are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Please see images 13, 14 and 15 for reference.     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver composite Fiddle & Thread pattern flatware service for 12 persons; an addition to our canteen of cutlery collection The pieces of this exceptional, antique Victorian composite sterling silver flatware service for twelve persons have been crafted in the Fiddle and Thread pattern. The surface of each handle is embellished with a paralleling thread decorated border. The anterior surface of each handle terminal is ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest of a stag's head erased. The posterior surface of each piece is plain and unembellished, apart from a rounded heel to the bowl of each spoon and drop of each fork. This Victorian sterling silver flatware set consists of 66 pieces: 24 Table forks 12 Table spoons 12 Dessert forks 12 Dessert spoons 6 Serving spoons These exceptional example of antique silverware have been crafted by the collectable silversmiths William Eaton (in 1839-1841) and Elizabeth Eaton (in 1852). The stainless steel blades of the original composite handled table and dessert knives bear the mark 'By Appointment to the Late King George V, Viners Ltd, Sheffield' accented with 'Stainless Deluxe'. This impressive canteen of cutlery is fitted to the original, fine and impressive oak three draw canteen table; this is an impressive piece of furniture in its own right. The table is fitted with a pair of Art Deco style gilt metal handles to each drawer, in addition to plain escutcheons. This exceptional cutlery table is supported by four plain legs with tapering knopped feet.
