An exceptional, fine and impressive vintage sterling silver Plain Pine pattern flatware service for twelve persons, in the Art Deco style; an addition to our canteen of cutlery collection. The pieces of this exceptional vintage George VI silver flatware service for 12 persons have been crafted in the Plain Pine pattern. The plain tapering handle of each piece is embellished with Art Deco style geometric panelled decoration with a stepped-down top. The posterior surface of each handle is ornamented with a triangular panel to the terminal. The original sterling silver forks have three tines/prongs; this is a fine feature of the service. This vintage Art Deco flatware set consists of 43 pieces: The components of this service have been crafted by the Sheffield silversmith and flatware maker Ollivant & Botsford Ltd between 1937-1941; the pieces will have been crafted in less years but due to the hallmarking system the items are struck with the date letters u and y. Each spoon and fork is embellished with a paralleling border to the handle, in addition to a pointed terminal. The fundamental pieces of the basic service were crafted by the Sheffield silversmith Emile Viner of Viner's Ltd between 1934-1939; these pieces will have been crafted in fewer years but due to the hallmarking system the components bear the date letters 'r', 's', 't', 'u', 'v' and 'w'. This service will have been retailed as a complete set and between the dates stated. The stainless steel blades of the original composite handled table and dessert knives bear the mark 'By Appointment to the Late King George V, Viners Ltd, Sheffield' accented with 'Stainless Deluxe'. This impressive canteen of cutlery is fitted to the original, fine and impressive oak three draw canteen table; this is an impressive piece of furniture in its own right. The table is fitted with a pair of Art Deco style gilt metal handles to each drawer, in addition to plain escutcheons. This exceptional cutlery table is supported by four plain legs with tapering knopped feet. The service has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The table box has been professionally polished by a cabinet maker. The velvet interior of each draw has some wear in keeping with age, but can be considered to be in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse surface of each piece are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
