About the Item

This asparagus plate in faience is a true collector's item, exemplifying the artisanal expertise of the Orchies manufactory. The basin is beautifully adorned with raised asparagus designs, giving the plate remarkable depth and texture. The blue border, decorated with a wickerwork pattern, adds a touch of elegance and refinement typical of the Art Nouveau style. The exceptional quality of this plate is recognized, and it is even featured in Maryse Botero's reference work, "Artichauts et Asperges en barbotine". Founded in 1879 by L’Herminé, the Orchies Art Faience Manufactory was established near the Belgian border, in a region of Romanesque Flanders renowned for its faience factories since the 18th century, notably the Moulin-des-Loups Manufactory in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux. Known for its decorative pieces in vibrant colors, the Orchies manufactory merged with the Moulin-des-Loups Hamage Faience Factory in 1923. Although the company experienced a peak of activity in the 1950s, it did not survive increased competition and closed its doors in the 1980s. This plate embodies the heritage and excellence of Orchies faience, paying homage to a precious and timeless artistic tradition.
