Early 20th Century Japanese Lacquered Wooden Spoon Shamoji
About the Item
This incredibly beautiful and functional red lacquered hardwood spoon is truly one of a kind. The deep matte like finish of the red lacquer over the wood make this something worth owning.
The details in the wood, as you can see - sharp angles that reflect the light accompanied by the deep wood grain. These qualities offer a timeless and very sensual sensibility. The subtle curves and absolutely gorgeous craftsmanship tell you about a period of time, a slowed time in Japan that is embedded in traditional craft making and prideful abilities. Often passed down from generation to generation.
The condition is remarkable as you can see in the images. Something that can age gracefully and become a part of your own narrative and hopefully something you are able to pass down to future generations.
A unique symbol of Japan in the culinary arts.
