Own a piece of American silver history! Most of the American silversmiths were located on the east coast. This is a rare opportunity to buy early California silver.
When James Marshall discovered gold at Sutter's Mill in 1848, California became the golden state. In 1859, gold miners were working claims in nearby Nevada and found the famous Comstock Lode. This discovery linked Nevada and California and fueled the growth of the "Silver Kings" of San Francisco.
Rare "Gothic" by Vanderslice/Stone circa 1860's California Silver Flatware set - 43 pieces. This set includes:
12 Knives, mother of pearl, 8 5/8"
12 Forks, 7 3/8"
11 Teaspoons, 5 3/4"
8 Place Soup Spoons, 7"
2 Serving Spoons, 8 3/8"
1 Gravy Ladle, 5 5/8"
1 Flat Handle Master Butter Knife, 8"
1 Berry Spoon, gold-washed, 8 3/4"
1 Mustard Ladle, 5 1/8"
Includes bonus brand new storage chest - styles vary.
Very good condition. Matching "M or W" monogram on the majority of pieces (as seen in photos), the rest is not monogrammed. Not monogrammed pieces: 6 teaspoons, 3 Place Soups, gravy, serving spoons, master butter, berry spoon, and mustard ladle. Knives have some flaws on the blades as expected with age. This set will be lightly hand polished and sealed in individual plastic sleeves prior to shipping.
