About the Item
This is the more rare of the seated cats known as "Seated Cat with Glass Eyes" and memorialized as Plate 11 on page 12 in Gottschalk and Sandra Whitson book "Figural Napkin Rings published in 1996. The ring is unmarked but attributed to the "Wilcox Silver Plate Company" in Meriden, Connecticut, circa 1880. Especially sought after by collectors because of the glass eyes versus the more common version by the same company, the "Seated Cat Ring" boasts a proud and confident postured feline with a circular ring mounted mid body with bird and foliate engraved decor around the entire perimeter. The ring is in excellent and all original condition with no restoration maintaining a lovely patina to nearly all of the silver plated surface; simply a wonderful example of traditional Americana that would be difficult to upgrade.

Provenance: From our own personal collection of original silver plated figural Victorian napkin rings; this example having been acquired in 1993.
