Each spoon and fork is embellished with a paralleling border to the handle, in addition to a pointed terminal. The original table and dessert knives, in addition to the carving set are fitted with composite handles, and the fish service and fruit service all retain the original plain rounded mother of pearl handles; each with plain ferrules. The fundamental pieces of the basic service were crafted by the Sheffield silversmith Emile Viner of Viner's Ltd between 1934-1939; these pieces will have been crafted in fewer years but due to the hallmarking system the components bear the date letters 'r', 's', 't', 'u', 'v' and 'w'. This service will have been retailed as a complete set and between the dates stated. The stainless steel blades of the original composite handled table and dessert knives bear the mark 'By Appointment to the Late King George V, Viners Ltd, Sheffield' accented with 'Stainless Deluxe'. This impressive canteen of cutlery is fitted to the original, fine and impressive oak three draw canteen table; this is an impressive piece of furniture in its own right. The table is fitted with a pair of Art Deco style gilt metal handles to each drawer, in addition to plain escutcheons. This exceptional cutlery table is supported by four plain legs with tapering knopped feet. Condition The Sandringham pattern cutlery service within this antique cutlery canteen table is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The service has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The table box has been professionally polished by a cabinet maker. The velvet interior of each draw has some wear in keeping with age, but can be considered to be in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse surface of each piece are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver and mother of pearl fruit/dessert flatware set / service consists of twelve knives and twelve forks. The blades of the knives have a rounded form and the forks each have four tines/prongs. The anterior surface of each knife is embellished with fine and impressive bright cut engraved foliate decoration accented with a simplified border to one side. The anterior surface of each fork is ornamented with a bright cut engraved stemmed floral design accented with single leaves. This magnificent, fine and impressive antique Victorian sterling silver and mother of pearl dessert service consists of eighteen knives and eighteen forks. The blades of the Victorian knives have a rounded form and the forks each have four tines/prongs. The surface of each knife blade and drop of each fork is embellished with an impressive contemporary bright cut engraved crest of on a mural crown with a heron's head erased. Each piece of this antique silver dessert service is fitted with the original and impressive, large tapering mother of pearl handle. The knives and forks retain the original sterling silver ferrules ornamented with embossed leaf ornamentation. Each mother of pearl knife and fork is fitted to the fine and impressive original hinged rose wood canteen box with a lift up lid and two lift out trays.
