Vintage Silver Plated Caviar Dish in the Shape of a Crab, c. 1970
About the Item
A silver-plated caviar dish in the shape of a crab, made by Almazan in Spain c. 1970.
The crab is excellently modelled, with fine attention to detail in the legs and claws. The original inset glass bowl for the caviar is a rich sapphire blue, and is complemented by the original blue glass eyes of the crab. He has substantial weight and is a highly accomplished piece of sculpture. The hinge for the lid works perfectly and supports the lid firmly when open.
The piece is stamped ‘Almazan’ to the base and has the letters ‘ZK’ stamped to the interior of the crab, most probably in reference to the craftsman who made the piece. Silver plating by Almazan tends to be of excellent quality, and on this crab is in superb condition throughout.
He is very well behaved and makes a wonderful addition to any household.
