Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Spirit Kettle

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver spirit kettle; an addition to our antique silver teaware collection This antique Victorian sterling silver kettle has a tapering, circular rounded form. The surface of the kettle is embellished with impressive bright cut engraved interlacing scrolling decoration accented with floral motifs. The decoration to this Victorian silver spirit kettle incorporates a vacant cartouche to either side. This antique silver kettle is fitted with a flush hinged hallmarked cover surmounted with a cast sterling silver finial; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of this piece. The upper rim of the body and surface of the cover are further ornamented with a bright cut engraved interlacing border. This exceptional example of antique silver teaware is fitted with an impressive sterling silver geometric Empire style handle, embellished with fan designs to the outer portions. The kettle detaches from the original hallmarked sterling silver stand, supported by three impressive cast silver Empire style legs. The legs of the stand are ornamented with further fan designs, in addition to pensile organic designs, all on a matte background. The upper portion of the stand is encircled with further bright cut engraved interlacing decoration, reflecting the same style to that of the body and cover. The stand incorporates a scrolling frame which retains the original hallmarked detachable spirit burner with a hallmarked integrated snuffer. The spirit burner is embellished to the lower portion with chased fluted decoration, in addition to an applied egg decorated border. The spirit kettle stand is fitted with the original chains and hallmarked security pegs. This exceptional Victorian silver spirit kettle with stand, crafted by the renowned, collectable silversmith John, Edward, Walter & John Barnardof Barnard & Sons Ltd, is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire. Condition This antique Victorian silver spirit kettle with stand is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The chased and cast decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the kettle and spirit burner, and part hallmarks to the stand, cover and pegs are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of Victorian teaware. Each segment of the paneled body is embellished with impressive alternating flat engraved designs incorporating quatrefoil motifs accented with bordered leaf ornamentation and a trellis pattern, all encompassed with a matte texture. The upper portion of the body is encircled with a flat engraved undulating border with applied moulded decoration to the scalloped rim. This antique silver kettle is fitted with a domed hinged hallmarked cover surmounted with the exceptional and original hallmarked sterling silver gourd shaped finial, securing to the interior with a wing nut. This fine example of Victorian teaware is fitted with an impressive hallmarked sterling silver scrolling handle ornamented with impressive cast S-scroll, leaf decorated terminals accented with large scrolling leaf decorated sockets in junction with the body.
