About

This startling teapot mimics the look of a Bonsai tree Made of Birch.created from meticulously carved stoneware by Eric Serritella. Who creates ceramic trompe l'oeil Works in the Japanese Yixing Style from hand-built and unglazed in clay stoneware.

Eric Serritella Describes his new work for the upcoming exhibition Walking with Softer Steps with Jason Jacques Gallery as an evolution into the quieter side of trees.

"Initially I was so charged up about the birch work that I was a bit frenetically, projecting that excitement in both the topic and its success into the sculptures. The branches were sometimes frenzied, even busy."

"While they fit the context of the pieces at the time, my philosophies about the birch changed."

"As my artist statement and philosophy evolved, it led me to what was my realization that my goal was to get people to walk with softer steps on this planet. It was this statement that resonated with me so strongly that I then set out to have it reflected in the work."

"I'd once had a personal artistic mission to create work that beautifully flowed with rhythm and grace. I joined that with the "softer steps" philosophy to create this current body of work. Within many of the pieces there is a strong sense of negative space. Quieter, simpler lines and movements. A flow. A rhythm. A sense of peace."
