About the Item
CHRISTOFLE-CARDEILHAC & Lino SABATTINI (born in 1925), designer. COMO model, created circa 1956-1957. Modernist tea and coffee service in solid silver comprising four pieces: coffee pot, teapot, sugar bowl, and milk jug. Plain silver, and a rectangular tray with handles covered in imitation raffia fibers. Scratches from use. Small dent, these pieces have not been through our workshops.

Silversmith: CHRISTOFLE
Origin: In the mid-1950s, Lino Sabattini opened a silversmith's workshop in Milan, which quickly attracted the attention of Gio Ponti. The latter wrote an article about him in Domus magazine and presented his work in 1956 in Paris at an exhibition devoted to Italian design. Sabatini subsequently achieved international recognition and became design director for Christofle Orfèvrerie (which had acquired Cardeilhac in 1951).
He breathed new life into the house, founded in 1830, by designing flatware, shaped pieces, and candlesticks with modernist lines for the "Formes Nouvelles" collection.
The Como model is most often made in silver-plated metal by Christofle for the Gallia collection. This silver edition by Christofle-Cardeilhac is therefore particularly rare. Provenance: - Acquired directly from Christofle on June 12, 1957.
