Enamel and Silver-Gilt 10-Person Coffee Service by 11th Artel
About the Item
This set contains ten saucers, ten coffee cups, and ten teaspoons, providing a ten-person coffee service. All the pieces are vermeil (gilded silver) and are marked accordingly with silver marks, the mark of the maker (11th Artel), and export marks.
Each cup is decorated with three enameling techniques: champlevé enamel in scrolling foliate motifs along the bottom third, guilloché enameling over engine turned engraving across the middle, and plique-à-jour enamel wrought into various motifs in the upper third. The handle of each cup includes a thumb rest. The saucers and spoons are similarly decorated, each containing instances of all three enameling techniques in a manner that complements the cups.
The color palette employed throughout is striking and the variety of motifs used in the enameling is diverse: blue, green, orange, and pink abound, and abstract, geometrical, and foliate motifs are evident throughout.
