About the Item

This gorgeous set of three antique English porcelain coffee cups with matching saucers was hand-painted by Chamberlains Worcester circa 1805. It is a beautiful example of George III era design. Each piece is meticulously hand-painted in a bold English interpretation of the Imari palette. The decoration is especially beautiful, filled with elaborate floral medallions and asymmetrical segments of deep cobalt blue, iron red, and gilt. What makes these pieces particularly lovely is the rare color combination, especially the unexpected use of a soft pinkish-purple enamel. This delicate tone appears in the flowering branches and scrolling accents, adding a luminous quality and elevating the overall design. The central scene on each saucer features a flowering tree with red and gold petals framed by green foliage and architectural details. The saucers are slightly paneled, catching light in a way that enhances the brilliance of the enamels and gilding. Together, the cups and saucers have exceptional display value, whether presented in a cabinet, on open shelving, or as part of a larger collection. This set is unmarked but characteristic of early 19th-century work by Chamberlains Worcester and is a superb example of decorative porcelain from the period.
