About the Item
Shreve, Stanwood & Co. sterling silver 3-piece tea set from the 1860s, adorned with stag motifs as finials, consisting of:
a teapot measuring 9 3/4'' in height by 9 3/4'' from handle to spout
a two-handled covered sugar bowl measuring 8 1/3'' in height with the lid (5 1/2'' without) by 7 1/2'' from handle to handle
a creamer measuring 5 2/3'' in height by 6 1/4'' from handle to spout
Hallmarks and monograms are shown. Total weight is 57.1 troy ounces,
Shreve, Stanwood & Co. was a silversmithing and retail form, established in Boston in 1862 by Benjamin Shreve, Henry B. Stanwood and J. H. Kimball. The firm was active until Stanwood’s death in 1868. Some of its pieces are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
