unique expressive masterpiece TEA POT by PALETTE 1970s Landshut Western Germany Art Pottery made by a Master of Ceramics Palette Keramikwerkstatt Helga Gast A stunning composition of earthy colours with a mystical turquoise hue perfecty made by a true Master : Helga Gast. Ø mouth 9cm ~ Ø max 22cm ~ weight: 1046grs definetely no chips and no cracks (even if it looks like - it´s nothing!) History of the famous Keramikschule Landshut / Lower Bavaria (that´s where we´re located and the artist was a friend of my parents) 1836 Opening of the Agricultural and Commercial School in the present government building of the Government of Lower Bavaria. 1870 First idea for a pottery school by the mayor Dr Gehring, the principal of the trade school Sperl and the master potter F. Reither. 1873 Opening of the 'Royal Pottery School' with the support of President v. Lipowsky. Students: two journeymen, later three more journeymen and two apprentices. Teachers: Practice - Franz Reither Theory - Friedrich Schenk Finance - Adolf Böhm. Joined later: Anton Weinzierl A prerequisite for admission to the school was a previous apprenticeship. Pupils lived in a boarding house. The lights had to be turned off at 9 p.m. and journeymen had to stay out until 10 p.m. Visiting pubs was frowned upon, as it was apparently incompatible with the decent, moral behaviour expected of the pupils. The consciousness of belonging to the pottery school must elevate the young craftsman, increase his sense of honour and express itself in all his actions. (Quote from: 'The State School of Ceramics in Landshut' by Gertrud Benker) Working hours were from 6.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. with a two-hour break. Mainly kilns were produced. All goods were sold. The pupils received a daily wage of 69 Pfennig. The vocational school in the government building was used for theory lessons and the former Graf factory in Bauhofstraße for practical lessons. 1903 Change of name: 'Keramische Fachschule Landshut' (additional title: Fachschule für Kunsttöpferei und Ofenbau) Move to a new building: (Ober-) Realschule am Marienplatz (today FOS). The school consisted of two years of pre-school, two years of vocational school and one year of further training for journeymen. Teachers: Wilhelm Rudolph (Reallehrer) and seven specialist teachers. School fees were 20 marks a year for Germans and 40 marks for foreigners. 30.1.1912 The pre-school examination was equated with the journeyman's examination and the technical school examination with the master's examination. 1924 Move to the preparatory school at Marienplatz (now KFL). 1930-1973 Opportunity to train as a bricklayer 1941 Master School for Ceramics, State Vocational School and Vocational College 1946 Licence to re-open after the war 1983-1988 Reconstruction of the old brickworks school 1983 Foundation of the 'Friends and Sponsors of the Landshut Ceramic Schools'.
