Victorian Siver 4-Piece Tea and Coffee Service

About the Item

A fine quality antique Victorian silver four piece tea and coffee set in exceptional, original condition. The set comprises a coffee pot, tea pot, milk jug and sugar basin, the latter two pieces have decorative gilded interiors. All have panelled pear shaped bodies, and shaped bases that are hand engraved in fine detail with scrolling foliage and lattice work. The raised hinged covers of the two pots are similarly decorated, each surmounted by a detachable finial, the one on the coffee pot in the form of a Arabian seated on a cushion with tasselled corners (symbolic of the geographic origin of the coffee), the other on the teapot in the form of a Chinese man seated on a tea chest (to represent the Chinese origin of tea). There are cast and applied scroll pattern mounts around the rims of all pieces. The handles of the pots are insulated, and both pots have 'swan-neck' cast spouts that are hand engraved. This is a large capacity set, the tea pot holds eight cups and the coffee pot, nine. This is truly a sumptuous set. The dimensions shown are for the coffee pot and the total weight of the set is 75.2 troy oz (2339g).
