An exceptional, fine and impressive, large antique Victorian English sterling silver soup tureen; an addition to our dining silverware collection This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver dish has an oval rounded form. The surface of the body is ornamented with bright cut engraved scrolling leaf designs accented with leaf motifs and bead decoration to either side. The decoration incorporates two cartouches, one remains vacant and the other is embellished with a bright cut engraved crest of a Dexter arm holding in the hand a quiver full of arrows fesseways. The flared rim of the body is encircled with a fine and impressive chased decorated gadroon style border accented with four scrolling leaf designs alternating with four leaf motifs. This large soup tureen retains the original impressive hallmarked push fit domed quatrefoil panelled cover surmounted by the original ring style handle accented with further gadroon style decoration with scrolling leaf design to the upper portion. Each panel of the cover is embellished with further bright cut engraved scrolling leaf designs incorporating four bordered oval cartouches, the two at either end are ornamented with floral and foliate decoration, one side remains vacant, and the other portraying the same crest as the body. This impressive example of antique silverware retains the original plain and unembellished electroplated silver removable liner crafted by Elkington & Co. This Victorian tureen is fitted with two exceptional shaped handles ornamented with a central leaf motif and bead decoration, with fine and impressive scrolling, bead and leaf decorated sockets. This large soup tureen is supported by four exceptional, fine and impressive feet, with embossed and chased leaf motifs and scroll and bead bordered sockets. Condition This sterling silver tureen is exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. This tureen has some natural fire marks. The decoration is very crisp and sharp. Full and part hallmarks are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Victorian silverware. A fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver soup tureen; an addition to our silver dining collection This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver soup tureen has a plain oval shaped form onto a plain oval domed spreading foot. A very fine & impressively large silver plated soup tureen by Elkington & Company of London with a capacity to hold 4 quarts. The substantial oval body having open handles, richly decorated with embossed & engraved foliate motifs & centered by blank foliate cartouches, the conforming lid bearing engraved heraldic crests. Raised overall upon a stepped oval foot, with the underside bearing impressed factory marks for Elkington & Co., together with date letter for 1884. In extremely good overall condition, and priced competitively in comparison to similar examples in the marketplace.
