About the Item

Sévres porcelain tureen decorated by hand from the 50s. Product in good condition with small signs of wear caused by the years and use. Its history is full of charm and particular events. The factory was founded in Vincennes in 1740 by order of Louis XV and Madame de Pompadour (hence the famous pink pompadour characteristic of some ceramics). In 1756 the factory was transferred to Sèvres, where from the beginning the production has been distinguished by the perfect decoration and refined forms. It experienced its moment of maximum splendor under the reign of Louis XV and Louis XVI, during which the production was almost exclusively commissioned by the royal family. With the French Revolution it suffered a sudden setback and then recovered at the beginning of the 19th century thanks to the able guidance of the scientist Alexandre Brongniart, who managed to maintain both the favor of the court and to conquer large sections of society.
