About the Item

A Very Good Quality 18th Century, Georgian, Mahogany Oval Shaped Open Wine Cooler, Of Coopered Construction, With Original Brass Bound Decoration And Elegant Lions Mask Carrying Handles, Raised On Charming Original Stand With Elegant Pierced Corner Brackets, Square Chamfered Legs And Original Roller Castors. Wine coolers of this are found more often than not with either no stand or a replacement stand. Therefore it can be deemed extremely unsusual to find this one with not only an original stand, but a particularly nice original stand. The pierced corner brackets and bold top moulding on the stand are really quite attractive indeed, as are the beautifully chamfered legs. Wine Coolers & Cellarettes are generally regarded as the same thing, made to serve the same purpose, which is to house the wine in the dining room before and during meal times once it has been brought up from the cellar. All of the grandest houses would have had at least a couple of these items and the grander the house, the bigger the status symbol when entertaining guests of course. In terms of the metal lining tray which can be found inside the item, our initial tests suggest that this appears to be watertight, however this is not something which we can guarantee, and we would therefore suggest that any purchaser satisfies themselves as to whether it is totally watertight or not before placing water in it above an expensive carpet or suchlike. Should you wish to have a brand new metal liner made to go inside the piece then it would be a relatively simple job to have carried out at a later date. Overall the condition is good, it has clearly been well loved, but also well used over the years of its life. There appears to be one very old, historic repair to one of the brass bands at one of the ends, which can be seen from the images provided. Circa 1760. Measures: Height 24.5in. Width 25in. Depth 17in. SHIPPING Please be aware, that I the seller of this item, am able to confirm that a restricted species, CITES, licence will not be required to ship this item cross border. Small Georgian Mahogany Butlers Tray on Stand
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A Good Quality And Unusually Small Georgian Mahogany Butlers Tray, Of Diminutive Proportion, Having Elegant Shaped Sides With Pierced Carrying Handles And Well Figured Top, Housed On Later Square Chamfered Leg Mahogany Stand. During the 18th and 19th centuries a coffee table was not what we regard as a coffee table in the 21st century. Coffee tables back then were always full height, effectively side tables. The modern, low, coffee table is really something which began to be seen during the early 20th century onwards. Based on the above there is a variety of different methods to incorporate a coffee table into an interior for people who wish to furnish their properties with genuine antique furniture, whilst still allowing for the practicalities and function which is required in modern times. Therefore it is now incredibly common to find 18th and 19th century trays of varying shape, size and design utilised as coffee tables. As with all the others that we have seen this particular tray has been fitted onto a low, practical and sturdy stand constructed from old antique wood. It’s worth noting that generally this means an old broken table...
