About the Item
A fine quality regency perioid mahogany sarcophagus shaped wine cooler, or cellarette, retaining original brass carrying handles and fine colour throughout, raised on original plinth base.
The choice of veneers used in this beautiful wine cooler gives an indication of the overall quality and craftsmanship involved. They are rich, highly figured and well figured.
At some point in its history somebody has removed what would have been the lead lining to the interior and this has been replaced with a marbled effect paper. Of course the purchaser could now choose to line it with any material they desire.
The brass handles are original and it is of good size. Quite unusually for this design there is a significant plateau to the top which would allow it be used in many more places, as it gives it many more uses.
It would even make a rather unusual, but attractive coffee table, with the added bonus of a little hidden away storage underneath.
As with all the items which we offer for sale, this wine cooler has been attended to in the traditional manner at our workshops before being offered for sale, by our highly trained and skilled antique furniture restorers including a light clean and natural wax polish to ensure that it is in retail condition and ready to be placed immediately into the home or workplace.
Circa 1830.
Measures: height - 19in.
Width - 34.5in.
Depth - 21.5in.
