Antique & Unique Early 1900s Dutch Folk Art Scale Model Windmill w. Light Inside
About the Item
One of a kind and good size scale model of an 18th century Dutch windmill.
With windmills being one of Holland's most famous landmarks one would think that you would find many antiques related to these wonderful and ancient 'buildings'. The reality is that, apart from antique paintings, we hardly ever see any. This Dutch Folk Art, scale model with its amazing patina and great attention to detail certainly is the first one we have ever seen. We acquired this wonderful and unique antique in the city of Haarlem and this leads us to believe that whomever created this windmill did so for nostalgic reasons, but also for the love of one particular windmill. The famous windmill 'De Adriaan' which was built in Haarlem in 1779 burned down in 1932. From the materials that were used to create this fully handcrafted and iconic antique scale model we can tell that it was made in the late 1930s or early 1940s. This makes it very likely that this Folk Art 'architectural model' was actually made in World War II. This two-piece scale model (the wicks can be taken off) looks a lot like the upper part of 'De Adriaan' (which too was entirely made of wood). Attached to the bottom of this windmill and on a metal bracket/hook is an antique brass and porcelain socket to create light inside. We have rewired it for safe and immediate usage the world over and the effect of the light behind the colored glass windows creates an atmosphere that is truly unique. The overall design and the great attention to detail (including real hand knotted rope in the fence) makes this a marvelous antique to own and look at. With windmills in Holland going back to the early 13th century there is so much history behind these buildings that this antique also makes a great talking piece. And if you ever come to Haarlem then you can again visit this Dutch landmark, because it was rebuilt in 2002 and it now is a museum that you can visit. If you like the history, the size, the uniqueness and the beauty of this Dutch work of (folk) art as much as we do then you will love our price. Mind you, our price for this priceless antique even includes perfect packing (in a custom made box) and also worldwide shipping from our store to your door in just 4 days.

- Antique & Important Dutch Hindeloopen Hand Painted Folk Art Tea Bucket w. LinerLocated in Lisse, NLHandcrafted, rare and important 'tea bucket', early 1800s. For a museum quality, ultra rare and pure Dutch Folk Art antique from the early to mid 1800s there is always room in your home or collection. This marvelous and all handcrafted tea-bucket is also hand-painted and the antique decor all around could not be more Dutch (in general) and it could not be more pure Hindeloopen in particular. On the one side are the farmhouse with the adjacent hay barn, the trees and the windmill and on the other side are the typical Dutch, wooden flat bottom boats that many who have been to Holland must have seen and will never forget. Because of the paintings too this Hindeloopen antique is important, because the hand-painted scenes not only epitomize the 'soul and cultural history of Holland', the fertile land and the adjacent seas have also made it possible for us to transport our goods and do business all over the world from very early on. When this so called tea-bucket was hand-crafted some 200 years ago, Hindeloopen was a village on the coast...Category
