Kendi are pouring and drinking vessels found throughout Southeast Asia since ancient times. They are used in day to day life, and also for ritual purposes. This example is of unknown provenance, but I believe most likely comes from the Sawankhalok kilns of Thailand and dates to the 15th or 16th centuries. Similar styles come from other kiln sites in Thailand, as well as Burma, Cambodia and Vietnam-- pinpointing the exact origin of this piece is unfortunately beyond my expertise.
