Evening or interior metallic gold brocade dress kaftan with silver and gold trim. handmade ceremonial caftan from North Africa, Morocco. Vintage exotic 1970s silver metallic brocade caftan gown. The luminous gold metallic caftan maxi dress caftan is made in a subtle metallic floral patterned brocade with shades of gold and silver, with running down the centre round braided gold buttons from the neckline to the hemline. Princess seams, fully front gold thread buttoning with 99 gold hand knotted looped buttons and slit at centre front and both sides slit seams. Great as a chic maxi dress can be worn buttoned up or left open. The caftan is perfect for a man or woman unisex, Dress measurement flat: Shoulder: 17.5" (seam to seam) Sleeve: 23" (shoulder seam to cuff) Chest: 24" (armpit to armpit) Waist: 27" (narrowest point) Hip: 29" (measured 6" below waist) Total Length: 54" (centre back to hem; excluding collar) handcrafted by Moroccan Artist designer, this is a one of a kind caftan, inspired by the tales of princess of the Arabian Nights. The Kaftan is a long and wide tunic, collarless, long-sleeved, worn by man and women. The Moroccan kaftans inspired European and global designers as Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, and many more who made the caftan famous in the 1960s and 1970s. .

    This opulent gold thread and silk cloth has a repeating design of octagonal and square panels enclosing confronting phoenix and flowerheads on a densely patterned geometric ground. The bolt is wrapped in brown paper secured with ‘Tate and Lyle Ltd Granulated Sugar’ tape and inscribed ‘Navy and Gold Chinese material brought back by Ad. Robert Coote‘. Chinese, circa 1880. Provenance: Admiral Robert Coote and thence by descent. Admiral Robert Coote CB (1820 – 1898) was born in Geneva and educated at Eton College. He enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1833 and served on Royal Yachts Royal George and Victoria and Albert. By 1851 he was Commander of Volcano, West Africa Squadron. He served on Victory (1860), Gibraltar ( 1864) and Arethusa (1867) as Captain. Between 1874-1878 he was Commander-in-Chief, Queenstown and his final rank was Commander-in-Chief, China Station. He retired in 1885. The China Station, established in 1865, had bases in Singapore, Hong Kong and Wei Hai, and was responsible for overseeing the coast of China and its navigable rivers, the western part of the Pacific Ocean and the waters surrounding the Dutch West Indies. During his time at the China Station, Admiral Coote amassed a considerable collection of Chinese works of art which he sent back to his wife Lucy, daughter of the Arctic explorer Admiral Sir William Parry...

    Visually striking vintage Uchikake Wedding Kimono/Robe for ceremonial occasion, circa end of Meiji to Taisho period 1910s-1930s. This bridal outer garment is of a white and red color that features elaborate and intricate embroidery in gold and red threads. Using brilliant colored and gold threads, the artisan decorated the kimono with the most auspicious symbols including flying phoenix, blooming peonies, fans, maple branches, and wisteria flowers. They form roundel motifs in a highly elaborate layout, especially striking when viewed from the back. The interior of the kimono is also padded with red fabric and weighted down at the bottom trim. The item is larger than life-size and somewhat heavy and is meant for ceremonial use only. This beautiful artisan hand-crafted piece can be displayed as wall art or on a stand as a sculpture.
