Native Kiowa 19th Century Pictorial Child's Teepee

About the Item

Child's teepee depicting highly graphic battle scene painted on brain tanned deer skin. This piece was acquired from Wilma Silvey, age 89, in 2005, white woman, was handed down through her husband's family, Joseph Silvey (Silverfish). His father was "Long Hair Hanging" (Kiowa Comanche) and his mother "Me Me" (many Minnows), Kiowa. It was told that the hide was commissioned for the 1898 World's Fair but "the guy didn't pay for it because of the killing scenes with the Natives winning." Well preserved condition and highly graphic. Came without teepee poles. Period: 19th century Origin: Kiowa Size: 28" x 45".
