About the Item
An interesting and rather unusual indigenous native North or Central/South American (Mesoamerican) primitive stone carved (steatite or soapstone) mythical creature figure. We are not sure exactly where this piece is from. It has elements of Alaskan Inuit sculpture but could also be from a Latin culture such as the Aztecs or Mayans or perhaps Pre-Columbian.
This piece is likely from the late 19th/early 20th century but it could be older.
From a fine Southern California collection of Native North and South American Folk Art, artifacts, and pottery.
A unique and somewhat rare piece. Would be a great addition to any primitive art collection or make for an eye catching stand alone accent piece in about any setting.
