About the Item
We believe this to be a cassia pod, and likely picked up by a sailor on his travels in the mid to late 19th century. The pod has been hollowed out with two hinged doors and external clasp, within a set of three shelves, a mirror type backing to the interior. Each shelf has an array of carved bone vessels and pots.
One half of the stork looks as its been detached at some point, a wonderful little curiosity created to abstain the boredom of being at sea for months on end.
