About the Item

Some 150 years ago this Volk Art Work was presented as a gift to a wedding. It is called a declaration of love or a Honorable Gratulation attesting two people bonded in marriage. A lot of precise handwork went into this piece that still has its original frame.

Kofron Fragment Hexentanz w. Decapitated Mans Head Oil on Canvas, Germany c 1940
Located in Esbjerg, DK
A strikingly brutal piece that raises more questions than answers. It was painted during the early 1940s by the German relatively unknown artist Franz Kofron. The fragment has been cut out of a larger subject/motif. Either due to censor or the obvious blasphemy of the subject mattter. A simple act of vandalism without any motiv does not make any sense. The technique used is referred to as Grisaille where a variety of shades/nuances within one color, typically gray, is used to create dept, mystic and atmosphere. The subject matter is a female with powerfull physic and rather masculine facial features/traits carrying a decapitated mans head attached to a stick by his long hair. One can argue that it articulates a reference to Judiths beheading...

This is a truly fine antique old piece. Great Item in your home. As seen there are imperfections to the brass on the top, also at little color loose to the little accessories and flowers. This is old-age and gives the piece in total a great antique look. These are often displayed with wax Jesus...
