19c Folk Art Country Swedish Adze Carved Rosewood Tripod Table Bowl Decorative

About the Item

Bought from an Antiques shop in Sweden, this charming, richly patinated tripod bowl table is hewn from a solid log of Rosewood - weighing in at 7kg, it's an incredibly extravagant use of a very expensive timber! It shows the most skilled hand woodworking, using a tool similar to an axe, to create the most incredible adze marks, that shimmer in the light. The thick chamfered top has been gently carved away to form a shallow bowl, and the combination of figured rosewood adze marks, which have then been polished, make for a very tactile piece. The heavy top is supported by three tapered and stained nut-coloured oak legs. This nice country piece is very difficult to date, but it certainly has the most wonderful patina that only time could bring, as seen in the images.
