About the Item
A wrought iron fish fork from the 18th century.
Extremely decorative and a piece of pure folk art.
Who ever made this made an extra effort to not just make it functional but also something beautiful to look at.
And when that happens it is special.
Length 38cm width 26cm.
Would look amazing in a fish restaurant, bar, club or a home by the sea.
Mounted on to a granite base.
Back in the day eel and fish forks were produced by blacksmiths.
Certain designs can be traced back to towns in Denmark.
But there was also a production made by fishermen and maybe just the one was ever made.
I think this one is one of the latter.
Great age related patina and rust to the surface.
The fork has been cleaned with wire wool and waxed to prevent and further currosion which also gives it a nice attractive dark luster..
In 2009 use of eel forks were prohibited by law in Denmark.
