Carved Tibet Architectural Panel Elephant & Bird Motifs Early-Mid 20th Century

About

Carved Tibet architectural panel elephant and bird motifs early to mid-20th century. Offered by Bruce Hughes. This charming panel, carved from a plank of pine wood, would have adorned a Tibetan home or temple. Elephants, of course, are widely loved and regarded as highly auspicious throughout Buddhist Asia. As the central figure in this architectural panel from Tibet it carries the three jewels on its head and back - symbolizing the Buddha, the dharma (teachings) and sanga (community). Birds are auspicious intermediaries, messengers of good tidings, and carriers of boons and offerings. Dimensions: 61 inches long by 13.75 tall by 1.5 inches thick.
