About the Item

Rare nostalgic Chicago railroad lantern opportunity. An original fine quality signed Railroad Switch Lantern and Lamp with its original interior and exterior hardware including four (4) big brilliant original blue and red glass lenses. Signed on top: "The Adlake non sweating Lamp Chicago " and signed on its side panel: "B.A. & P.R.R." for Pennsylvania Rail Road. The B.A. designatation signified these were newer locomotives and were designated Class B. A. post 1895. Big brilliant red and blue lenses beam great night light (see photo) Dimensions: 19 inches tall from bottom to top of handle; main lantern only 14.5 inches tall. Entirety is 11 inches diameter with four (4) original glass lenses measuring 5.5 inches diameter each. Original hardware includes the original handle, original glass lenses (three blue and one red) plus it includes the original kerosene metal filter, wick and entire unit - all remaining in place inside the chamber - just the way we like to find them . The inside maybe accessed from the same hinged top and allows comfortable access to install your own LED lighting device or candles. No repairs and no damages, a beautiful example. History or Adlake: Adams & Westlake Company, otherwise known as Adlake, was likely founded in the late 1850s. It evolved into Adlake in Chicago. Since the beginning, the company has produced railroad hardware and by the early 1900s, Adlake was hailed as one of the largest suppliers of transportation equipment. The company manufactured transportation related hardware such as lamps, lanterns, lights, etc. They were successful enough to absorb at least portions of the operations of other prominent railway suppliers. In 1927, Adams & Westlake moved their operations to Elkhart, Indiana. Provenance: private American collection. Lifetime guarantee of authenticity.

A large scale carved wood sculpture with extraordinary detail. The entire piece represents Krishna on his peace mission and preparation for war with the hostile Duryodhana. Later in triumph, here Krishna is the charioteer for the famed Archer Arjuna who rides in the Palaquin at back, in prayer and with his Bow and Arrow lying in front. The god Hanuman, with his monkey face and hiding a prayer scepter sits under an arch, flanked by carved peacocks. The chariot is drawn by four horses and the Palaquin has an elaborate top.
