About the Item

A Papua New Guinea carved-wood Lumi shield from the mid-20th century. This vintage war shield from the West Sepik region, the northwestern most province of Papua New Guinea (now referred to as Sandaun Province), features the typical kidney-shaped form often associated with these shields, which has been adorn with a raised abstract design made up of lines and spirals. Arm straps are found at the back of the shield. This Lumi tribal shield is presented upon a custom black iron stand, giving it new life as a unique and intriguing decorative art piece for the home or office.
