A wonderful rare set of three 18th Cetury French carved 'Pierres de Sorcieres'.
Hand carved polyhedra placed on rooftops and terraces in the 17th Century as protective talismans against witches. Superstition had it that the jagged edges would ensnare the robes preventing them entering buildings in a time of great fear and uncertainty with the occult in France. Still unknown if it was mere folklore...
