About the Item
Dating to the late 19th century, this is a fine and rarer form of Ethiopian headrest with a double-tiered, cone-shaped base.
Decorating the base are deeply etched designs of crosses and circular striations, and two downward-facing lugs feature at each end of the curved neck support.
Carved from a dense brown wood, this Gurage headrest has a rich, smooth, and slightly oily surface patina.
