Early to mid-20th century Aboriginal Desert Shield of lightweight wood with finely incised carved vertical lines on front and back, encrusted red pigment, simple curved oval shape, beautiful leaf shape in profile. Carved handle on reverse, Australia. Areas of wear, small dings and small patches of pigment loss, appropriate for age, use and materials. This would be an elegant display with a beautiful dark soft red color and textured surface. Measures: 26 3/4 inches high, on custom wood and metal base, total height 30 3/4 inches.
