African Poto Tribe Iron Currency Knife, 20th Century

About

A gorgeous and sculptural currency or ceremonial knife from the Poto Tribe, Democratic Republic of the Congo, 20th century. Of traditional form, with an iron blade and a wood and brass-clad handle. The blade etched with geometric designs. The patterns continuing in the hammered brass cladding. The iron blade displaying a nice dark patina in areas. The wood handle warm and smooth from handling. Mounted on a modern black metal stand. Measures: Height of knife only 26.5".
