About

Architectural Element. Chofa roof finial from a Thai Temple, with remnants of original color, mid-20th century. On a metal base. This Chofa comes from an old Thai temple. The Chofa- literally, sky tassel - is a stylized representation of a celestial bird, sometimes interpreted as Garuda, the half man half bird steed for Vishnu, but also interpreted as representing a Hamsa, the celestial swan which serves as the vehicle of Brahma. This Chofa itself retains some of its original color. Dimensions (of the piece itself): 79 inches tall by 9 inches wide by 23 inches deep. Base: 15 inches by 15 inches.
