Early Ibibio Standing Wood Male Shrine Figure, powerful, Nigeria, Africa
About the Item
Early Ibibio standing carved wood male figure, powerful expression with hands on sides of stomach, exposed teeth and vertical raised scarification marks on sides of face. From a shrine with the remains of encrusted offerings, weathering and erosion. Stable cracks, and front of proper right foot missing Nigeria, Africa. Old label on base which mentions being part of a pair, the whereabouts of the other figure is unknown.
16 1/4 inches high on custom metal base (wear and chips to metal base)
Created mid 20th century or earlier.
