Early Twentieth-Century South African Milk Pail ('Ithunga')
About the Item
This fine early twentieth-century milk pail - known as an 'ithunga' - comes from the Zulu culture in South Africa. The milk pail displays a striking two-toned appearance, in which a darker-coloured geometric diagonal pattern and scorched areas - such as the two high-relief lug handles - contrast beautifully against the light-coloured wood of the container.
