About the Item

This is a very fine and rare example if a Native model canoe from the MiqMaq people if Maine in North America . The piece was created by a Master Craftsman from birch bark and bird quill. The MiqMaq people were revered for their skill and craftsmanship , creating many items such as trinket boxes and purses. To find a canoe model is extremely rare. This piece was collected by a Scottish Military Officer in the late 1880's and is in exceptional condition. The piece has been stored for decades hence the exceptional condition of the birch bark and quill construction. Very decorative as well as collectable.
