About the Item
This is a very fine and rare example if a Native model canoe from the MiqMaq people if Maine in North America . The piece was created by a Master Craftsman from birch bark and bird quill.
The MiqMaq people were revered for their skill and craftsmanship , creating many items such as trinket boxes and purses. To find a canoe model is extremely rare. This piece was collected by a Scottish Military Officer in the late 1880's and is in exceptional condition. The piece has been stored for decades hence the exceptional condition of the birch bark and quill construction.
